After a car accident, appraisers and repair shops may not immediately know exactly how much damage a vehicle has sustained or if it is definitely in total. Or an appraiser can provide an estimate, then a week later a body shop realizes the car is totaled.

Tractable, an AI technology company, has a solution to this problem developed in partnership with Entegral, an incident management company owned by Enterprise, the car rental company. The companies announced the launch in October.

Marcel Horstmann, Product Estimating Manager at Tractable

“Our estimating professional can get photos of the damaged vehicle directly from the driver using a web-based application. Our AI system can instantly assess damage levels and make immediate, actionable recommendations for next steps. that should happen to this vehicle,” said Marcel Horstmann, product estimating manager at Tractable, who led the integration of its technology with Entegral’s services. “The first thing we do in this solution is to determine if the car is even repairable or if it is beyond repair.”

For a vehicle that can be repaired, Towable’s AI estimates the amount of repair work needed, which also helps determine how long the car owner will need a lease replacement, Horstmann added. For Entegral, this reduces the need to extend rental replacements paid for by insurance policies due to inaccurate repair cost and time estimates.

Additionally, Tractable Technology and Entegral initiated a reduction in all related effort required in vehicle damage assessment and rental car provision. Typically, a rental will be provided for three or seven days, and often either duration must be extended, according to Horstmann, which requires more conversations between the insured, the repair shop and the car rental office. Also, another tow of the damaged vehicle must be covered if it is taken to a repair shop, but then has to be towed again to a scrap yard, he added.

In addition to these practical concerns, the AI partnership of Tractable and Entegral makes this a more user-friendly process for the driver or insured who needs to obtain a rental replacement. “You could have a terrible experience if you’re a soccer mom, carrying a lot of gear in the back of a van, and you walk in and they give you a compact car,” said Joy Rohde, manager. business development at Tractable. . “In this app, you have the option of understanding the limits through your insurance policy to select the appropriate vehicle, but you can select a larger vehicle.” minibus or SUV.’ Even a customer who does not have rental insurance on their policy has the option of also getting the reduced rate from the insurance company for a rental.”

According to Rohde, insurers could potentially reduce the effort required for rental repair and replacement arrangements.

“Some insurers we know of have more than 20 people on staff just handling calls to extend the car rental experience,” she said. “They help the customer find a repair shop, and then other calls have to be made behind the scenes to coordinate that appointment.” The partnership between Tractable and Entegral also helps find the right repair shop to handle the nature of damage to the vehicle, according to Rohde.
